The L-15 supersonic lead-in fighter trainer (LIFT) has been developed by the Hongdu Aviation Industry Group (HAIG) to meet requirements of an advanced figher jet trainer for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) . The  L-15 supersonic jet trainer was designed from he start to train the Chinese fighter pilot for the advance 4th and 5th generation fighter aircraft such as Su-27, Su-30, J-10A/S/B, J-11A/B/BS.

China should seriously consider giving twenty of these jets to the Afghanistan Airforce for the following reasons.
1. The United States is seriously dropping the ball when it comes to providing a combat air capability to Afghanistan. They made this same error in Iraq and apparently have not learned their lesson.
2. Afghanistan must have a combat air force capability to survive against the Taliban and it is in China's interest that a stable Afghanistan emerges.
3. A combat capable airforce will help Afghanistan become independant from NATO presence.
4. A gift of twenty new jet fighter/trainer aircraft will be a highly visible show of Chinese support for Afganistan.
5. While very usefull to Afganistan. These jets are less sophisticated than the Chinese jets sold to Pakistan so there should be no complaints from the Pak. miltary.

The American politics and beauracracy have definitly fallen short when it comes to building a combat capable Afghan airforce. By now the Afghan airforce should have new HIND Assault helicopters , a squad of propeller driven COIN airplanes, a light jet squadron like the L-159 and a couple of C 27 cargo planes converted to gunships. If the American airforce cannot handle this then they should outsource it.

Other nations should also consider supporting the Afghan Airforce. Both Russia and India would like to see a strong stable Afghanistan and Russia and India both have large numbers of surplus jet fighters.

President Karzai just visited Washington and apparently his request for Tanks , Jets and Artillery has fallen on deaf ears.
The superior NATO forces use and depend on these weapons and yet in their superior wisdom they decide that Afghan Military does not need them. Maybe Afghanistan does not need hundred of tanks and jets but they do need a few and it appears that they will have to go outside of NATO to get them. What a shame.

After the C27 Cargo plane disaster. The Pentagon needs to find new leadership in building an Afghan Airforce. Replace the C27 with 8 surplus C 130 and add another 2 AC 130 Gunships for COIN duty. Supply thirty COIN Prop planes ( Tucano / Beech or both ) and disperse them in groups of six around the country. Follow this with thirty Light Jet Attack aircraft like the L159 or Korean TA 50 and disperse them the same as the prop planes. Then, buy 12 MI 35 Assault Choppers to replace the 9 existing ones that are soon to retire. Disperse the MI 35 around the country in groups of 2 to escort the MI 17 choppers over hostile territory. Last, supply 4 Predator Drones to be joint operated by Afghan Airforce and the Intelligence Agency to pick up where we leave off in the coming future. This is all the Airforce Afghanistan will need or be able to sustain other than what they currently operate.

Obviously to survive , the Afghan Air Force needs a combat capability and right now they have nothing. What is NATO thinking ???
Also at least 100 surplus Tanks and Howitzers should be provided and placed in contested areas. If the Afghan Army does not have superior fire power than the Taliban then the Army will lose.
Wake up NATO !

2032 helprWYes why not provide some tanks and cannon to the Afghanistan Army ?
The West has thousands of surplus tanks that could be given at very low cost. Afghanistan Tank Crew does not need advanced training for Armor Warfare. They only need to know to maintain the tank , drive the tank to the Taliban stronghold and fire the gun.
