The Y-9 is a new generation four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft which has been developed by the Shaanxi Aircraft Company based on the Shaanxi Y-8F600 aircraft to meet the to meet the requirements of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) for a medium sized transport aircraft..
The Y-9 transport aircraft is powered by four Wojiang WJ-6C turboprop engines with six blade JL-4 propellers.

The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) may order Y-9 aircraft to fulfill different roles like AEW&C, ELINT,  Maritime Patrol, Anti-submarine warfare (ASW), Gunship and aerial refueling tanker.

The Transport squadron which will be based at Hindon will use this aircraft in the most important task of co-coordinating commando operations.

If there would be countries that need to develop medium sized transport aircraft, I think it would be those countries conducting health missions.
