Taiwan has allowed thenselves to become dangerously outclassed by the Chinese military. Especially the Navy and Airforce. Taiwan needs at least 100 new jet fighters and eight modern submarines or they are simply inviting an invasion.
Only two countries can provide Taiwan with what they desperatly need. Russia with the SU 30 or 33 Jet Fighters and Kilo or Amur Submarine. Or France with the Rafael fighter and Scorpene sub.
The fact that the US is hesitant to supply Taiwan with up-to-date weaponry signals that China and Taiwan are heading towards unification. Besides, being all Chinese, China and Taiwan know that they are not each other's real enemies.
