People's Liberation Army Navy JL-2 is a 2nd -generation submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) which can carry single or multiple warheads nuclear warheads to 8000 km range.
Chinese JL-2 Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) will allow People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) to strike US targets like Alaska, Hawaii, Guam from from Chinese littoral waters.
Chinese JL-2 SLBM is based on the mobile land-based DF-31 solid propellant intercontinental ballistic missile.
People's Liberation Army Navy may produce atleast 5 Type 094 Jin-class nuclear ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) which can carry 12 JL-2 SLBMs and has constructed an underwater submarine base for their nuclear submarine fleet on Hainan Island in the South China Sea.
New Chinese Type 094 (Jin-class) submarines can carry upto 12 JL-2 SLBMs.
Compare to Americans Ohio class SSBN and Trident 2 D5 SLBM. China still has a long way to catch up.
